Innovative and emerging electrified Chinese brand Lynk & Co is in the sights of Volvo Car Australia.
Sister brands under the giant umbrella of Geely, the two could be paired up via Volvo’s upcoming Australian combination of online sales and existing dealer network infrastructure.
Lynk & Co is considered by many to be the youth brand in Geely’s stable. It currently offers a blend of petrol-powered and electrified SUV/coupe-style models and even has a homologated TCR racer. Established in China, it has launched into Europe and has global aspirations.
Speaking exclusively to carsales this week, Volvo Car Australia boss Stephen Connor was bullish about his hopes for Lynk & Co Down Under.
“We haven't had conversations directly with Lynk & Co as yet,” Connor admitted.
“But there was an announcement fairly recently that the brands will work closer together to help each other. And what I mean by that is… For them to become a global car manufacturer as part of the Geely group, then they've got to actually extend out to Australia.”
Connor says Lynk & Co is “absolutely” coming to Australia. He cautions, however, that no firm timelines are in place.
“Do I know what it looks like? [Well,] I'd love the opportunity to be able to sell Lynk & Co through the Volvo dealer network. However, they do have a direct sales model across some markets – not all, but the details yet we still don't know.
“The conversations will come with us at the back end of this year [2021],” he revealed.
Ultimately, Connor believes Lynk & Co would sit well with Volvo’s evolving electrified line-up.
“Wouldn't it be lovely to turn around to our dealer network and say, we've got this beautiful brand called Lynk & Co and we'd love to be able to sell them through the Volvo network,” Connor enthused.
