Volvo Australia has announced pricing for its second-generation XC60, due to launch here two months from now.
The new XC60 range kicks off with the diesel-engined entry-level Momentum D4 variant, priced at $59,990. Ordering the same level of trim with the turbocharged T5 petrol engine adds $3000 to the price tag. The mid-range Inscription grade is $7000 more expensive and offers the same powertrain choices, with the same price difference of $3000.
Topping the range is the R-Design flagship grade, costing $7000 more again, and with higher engine outputs for the 'D5' diesel and 'T6' petrol variants. In addition, the XC60 in this level of trim is also available with the top-shelf plug-in hybrid 'T8' variant, priced at $92,990.
The D4 diesel four-cylinder produces 140kW, versus the 173kW D5 engine with 'Power Pulse' technology. Petrol engines develop 187kW, in the case of the T5 four-cylinder, or 235kW for the T6, which is both supercharged and turbocharged. With petrol power and electric power combined, the T8 plug-in variant develops 300kW in total, enough to push the XC60 past 100km/h in 5.3 seconds.
Volvo claims that the XC60 promises to be one of the safest cars ever to hit Australian roads, with a range of features comprising Steer Assist and Oncoming Lane Mitigation with the option of Pilot Assist. This last feature operates at speeds of up to 130km/h and keeps the XC60 on course, taking care of steering, acceleration and braking on properly marked roads. Oncoming Lane Mitigation warns the driver and provides active steering input to reduce the severity of head-on collisions, or preferably avoid them altogether. This system operates in a speed range from 60 to 140km/h.
Numbered among the comfort and convenience features to be offered in the new XC60 are 'Clean-Zone' climate control (four zones), Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
"Volvo has a strong heritage in designing stylish and dynamic SUVs that offer the latest in technology. The All-New XC60 is no exception, even by our already high standards", says Kevin McCann, MD of Volvo Australia.
"The exterior has an athletic sculpture with a subtle, timeless quality. The interior is a masterful composition of well-resolved architecture, beautiful materials and the very latest technology - all perfectly blended together".
"It is the perfect car for an active Australian lifestyle, and it represents the next step in our transformation plan".
Even in run-out, the XC60 has been Volvo's strongest selling model in Australia, accounting for 37 per cent of Volvo sales for the year to date. Elsewhere around the world the XC60 contributes 30 per cent to Volvo's sales total.
