The 2024 Volvo S60 will continue to be available in Australia for the time being, despite production of the mid-size luxury sedan wrapping up in the US.
Australian-market versions of the Volvo S60 are sourced from China, which enables the sleek four-door to continue here for at least the current model year.
Its days are numbered, however, given Volvo Car Australia has committed to becoming a full-electric brand by 2026.
All-new EVs are in the pipeline, although there’s a question mark over where Volvo takes its next-generation mid-size passenger cars.
“We always monitor market and segment trends,” a spokesperson told carsales.
“For the now [current model year] S60 remains part of our local model portfolio.”
The Aussie S60 line-up was bolstered last month by the arrival of the limited-run 2024 Volvo S60 Dark Edition featuring black aesthetic treatments inside and out, additional equipment and, not least of all, a powerful 311kW/670Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged plug-in hybrid powertrain.
We wouldn’t be surprised if a dedicated swansong S60 special-edition emerges in the months ahead.
US production of the S60 will wind down by the end of this month to make way for the all-new 2025 Volvo EX90 electric large SUV, which will also be built in China for a variety of markets, including Australia, where first deliveries are due in January.
