The XC70 has gained a substantial performance lift now that Volvo has introduced the 3.0-litre T6 engine for 2013.
Already familiar in other Volvo models sold locally, the T6 engine develops 224kW/440Nm and uses 10.5L/100km in the combined-cycle fuel consumption test. It broadens the appeal of the XC70 and recombines wagon practicality with the high performance potential of the T6 engine for the first time in Volvo's local product range since the road-focused V70 T6 reached the end of the road. While the addition of the T6 engine to the range is the principal update for the XC70, the off-roader has also undergone a host of changes in other areas. Safety is improved by upgrading the City Safety collision avoidance system to operate at speeds as high as 50km/h, and the 2013 model year introduces the Road Sign Information system to the XC70 range, to display prevailing speed limit information to the driver. The new system, which comes bundled with the optional Driver Alert System, will warn the driver in the event the vehicle exceeds the speed limit. According to Volvo, RSI will also acknowledge 'No overtaking' and other supplementary signs.
An upgraded camera located at the top of the windscreen supports not only the City Safety system, but also the Active High Beam, which is a new feature in the XC70 for 2013. Auto on-off headlights are now combined with the rain-sensing wiper option. The revised XC70 can be identified by new number graphics for the badging on the tailgate, an illuminated transmission selector and a new grocery-bag holder.
