Volkswagen is in for a busy 2025 with no less than eight much-needed new-generation or refreshed products headed to Aussie showrooms.
The new model roll out begins with the ID.Buzz Pro people movers and ID.Buzz Cargo commercial van, both of which will arrive in January, before the hot GTX performance offering joins the fray mid-year.
VW Australia has stayed tight-lipped on expected sales volume but did admit it expects the ID.Buzz to become its second-most popular commercial model after the Amarok ute, citing the approximately 8000 online expressions already received.
Hot on its heels and also due in January is the ID.4 and ID.5 mid-size electric SUV duo, of which just one trim level will be offered from launch: the ID.4 Pro and ID.5 GTX.
The former is powered by a 210kW/545Nm single-motor powertrain good for up to 544km of WLTP range while the latter ups the ante with a 250kW/679Nm dual-motor set-up and an identical range.
Come March or April, the new MQB-based T7 Multivan will touch down ahead of the T7 Transporter and Caravelle’s arrival in the second half of the year.
The facelifted Golf Mk8.5 will also land in early April, with the new 245kW Golf R halo model coming first, followed by the GTI and standard variants later in the month.
The long-awaited fourth-generation Tiguan will follow shortly after in late May or early June, its line-up comprising 110TSI, 150TSI, and 195TSI turbo-petrol powertrains and massive tech upgrades.
An updated ID.Buzz featuring a heat pump, improved driving range and vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability will be released in tandem with the previously mentioned GTX flagship in the lead-up to an all-new nameplate being introduced towards the end of the year: the Tayron.
Pitched as a new-generation replacement for the popular Tiguan Allspace, the Tayron will sit between the Tiguan and large-sized Touareg as a medium-large middle ground for those needing three rows of seats.
VW Australia is hoping the bombardment of new product will help reverse its 2024 fortunes which have seen sales slip by almost 7000 units so far this year ending November compared to the same period in 2023 – 33,761 vs 40,208.
Karsten Seifert, Volkswagen Group Australia’s Managing Director, said at the recent ID.Buzz launch that 2025 would offer better, fresh product.
“I would say 2024 was probably not our strongest year,” VW Group Australia managing director Karsten Seifert said.
“I think 2025, with a new product portfolio, I think we have a good offer.”
