Warranty boost for Citroen

French marque further boosts local warranty, roadside assistance and capped-price servicing period to six years, in effort to gain traction

Citroen has confirmed its position at top of the local warranty 'hit parade'. Effective today (July 14), French national holiday Bastille Day, almost all new Citroens sold Down Under will be covered by a six-year warranty, roadside assist and capped price servicing deal.

The new arrangement now covers the maker's entire C and DS passenger car model line ups, only excluding the Berlingo van. Previously only DS models and the Grand C4 Picasso people mover were recipients of the extended coverage – remaining models were covered by a three-year 100,000km warranty.

Kilometres travelled are unrestricted for the duration of the new six-year warranty.

"The six-year unlimited kilometre warranty and six-year capped price service plan across our entire passenger range is a statement of our commitment to Australia," Citroen Australia National Marketing Manager, Manuel Tyras told motoring.com.au.

"Customers can now purchase with the confidence of a six year unlimited kilometre warranty for all passenger vehicles, along with the peace of mind that comes with six year roadside assist and six year capped price servicing," he stated.

Citroen is imported into Australia by Sime Darby, an independent distributor. The company also handles PSA's other brand Down Under, Peugeot.

Although the French marque enjoys a small and almost fanatical following locally, sales have been on the slide for most of the last decade. Since 2008 local Citroen sales have slumped from 2703 units to 1180 in 2013 – a reduction of over 56 per cent. In the same period Renault has more than doubled sales.

Tyras says the new warranty arrangements are the result of customer research. Citroen introduced partial six-year coverage of its models in March 2014 with the local launch of the Grand C4 Picasso.

The Citroen exec told motoring.com.au that new customers and the company's local dealer network have both reported on the positive impact of the change.

In the first six months of 2014, Citroen sales are around eight per cent up.

RedBook Warranty provides peace of mind when the factory warranty expires.
