Mazda has given us our best look yet at the upcoming 2023 Mazda CX-90 just days after confirming the luxury seven-seat family SUV would be its most powerful model to date.
Partially revealed in a four-minute teaser video explaining some of the new flagship SUV’s key engineering and drive attributes, the CX-90 largely looks as expected – that is, an upscaled version of the mid-size 2023 Mazda CX-60.
It’s also more elegant too, with heavy use of chrome exterior trim and ‘inline 6’ wing badging.
Mazda says the squared-off features and cab-back silhouette will be underpinned by “proper sports car suspension”.
Previously announced turbocharged 3.3-litre straight-six petrol and diesel engines (as well as a 2.5-litre plug-in hybrid powertrain) drive all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Little else is revealed in the artsy video, which includes a recap of the CX90’s standard-fit Kinematic Posture Control system and Wheeler Dealers host Ant Anstead talking up the SUV’s driver engagement and styling.
We won’t have to wait long to see the CX-90 in full and learn about its myriad technologies and equipment highlights; the global reveal is set for February 1.
Mazda Australia has also confirmed its new flagship will be on sale locally by the end of the year.
It will join the CX-60 (launching in June) and updated versions of the Mazda CX-8 and Mazda6 as key launches for the brand this year.
The CX-90 and CX-60 will be the first models offered here from Mazda’s all-new ‘large product portfolio’, taking the brand into the luxury market to rival the likes of Audi, BMW, Genesis, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz.
