Audi has given us our first glimpse of a coupe-style Sportback version of its all-new 2025 Audi Q6 e-tron in a presentation at the new battery-electric SUV’s international launch – and confirmed a high-performance RS Q6 e-tron is also on the way.
Until now, the more rakish new Audi Q6 e-tron Sportback was only rumoured.
But speaking to carsales, Audi’s global product marketing executive Philippe Bornert said the coupe version will go on sale in Europe before the end of this year.
The more slippery body style is set to be available in Australia in the first half of 2025, along with the rest of the new Q6 e-tron range.
Bornert also confirmed that the long-range single-motor Q6 e-tron Sportback will add extra range, thanks to its rakish design.
“The silhouette of the car and the roofline will definitely have an impact on the aerodynamics,” he said.
Bornert wouldn’t declare just how much of an improvement to the range the sleeker body would make, but the standard Q6 e-tron with a 100kWh battery (94.9kWh useable) can already cover an impressive WLTP-verified 641km.
That suggests the Sportback could cover more than 650km on a single charge.
Audi RS-obsessed Australians will also be pleased to hear that Audi Sport is developing an RS Q6 e-tron to introduce late next year or early 2026.
“We are a sport brand. We love RS and the RS Q6 e-tron will come,” said Bornert.
No further details were revealed, but carsales can confirm that the inbound high-performance battery-powered SUV will not share its pure-electric powertrain with the Porsche Macan Turbo.
According to an insider, Audi Sport will develop the RS powertrain in-house, preferring to take a different strategy to the dual-motor Porsche Macan Turbo.
This suggests that the inbound RS Q6 e-tron could have even more power than the Macan Turbo that pumps out a monumental 430kW (470kW overboost) and 1130Nm of torque.
If so, expect it to be even quicker than the blistering 3.3 seconds it takes for the Porsche EV to launch from 0-100km/h.
Until the RS flagship arrives, the fastest Audi S Q6 e-tron pumps out 380kW and can sprint from 0-100km/h in a claimed 4.3sec.
Pricing and local specifications for the Q6 e-tron and S Q6 e-tron will be announced ahead of the SUV’s Australian debut in the first half of 2025.
