Wild Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution Roadster breaks cover

Sold-out $US3m Texan hypercar set to break Hennessey’s own record as world’s fastest convertible

Texan hypercar-maker and tuning house Hennessey Performance has unleashed the 2024 Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution Roadster – a wild roofless version of the track-focused 1355kW Venom F5 Revolution coupe that’s set to become the world’s fastest convertible.

Hennessey already claims bragging rights with the Venom GT Roadster, which hit 265.5mph (427.3km/h) in 2016, but this ‘Revolution’ version of the F5 Roadster is claimed to be capable of much more than 300mph (483km/h).

Acceleration from 0-100km/h is expected to take just 2.6 seconds.

There’s no official verification yet, but that could come with the public debut of the Venom F5 Revolution Roadster at the Monterey Car Week in Pebble Beach, California, on August 18.

Releasing two images of the roadster overnight, which show its exposed carbon-fibre finish, Hennessey says its latest drop-top will be limited to a run of just 12 cars, each costing $US3 million ($A4.6m) – and all of them are already spoken for.

Under the rear boot lid, the Venom F5 Revolution Roadster is powered by the ‘Fury’ 6.6 twin-turbo V8 that produces 1355kW and 1618Nm of torque.

Like the hard-top, power is channelled to the rear wheels via a seven-speed automated manual transmission.

Helping keep weight to an absolute minimum, the Venom F5 Revolution Roadster is based on the same carbon-fibre monocoque as the coupe and features a single-piece carbon-fibre roof panel that weighs just 8kg.

To secure the panel safely at speeds approaching 500km/h, Hennessey has fitted it with two high-strength latches designed to keep the roof safely in place.

Boosting its on-track prowess, the roofless hypercar features substantial changes over the regular Venom V5 that include a new front splitter and the introduction of dive planes on either corner.

A roof scoop, meanwhile, jets higher volumes of air into the engine bay for better cooling.

A huge rear wing has also been invited to the party, generating more than 363kg at speeds of up to 300km/h and almost 640kg at 400km/h, according to Hennessey.

Other mechanical upgrades to enhance its ability on track include revised transmission calibration, a different suspension set-up that includes adjustable dampers and wider forged alloy wheels and standard carbon-ceramic brakes.

Inside, the Venom F5 Revolution Roadster comes with a real-time digital track telemetry system that measures everything from lap times to g-forces pulled.
