Subaru Australia will launch a limited edition WRX to farewell current G3 generation Impreza hotrod. The as yet unnamed limited edition is due to land Down Under in the fourth quarter of 2013.
Previewed during Subaru’s recent multi-city road show (which included a concept of the next generation WRX), the farewell model will feature styling and equipment tweaks. Alas, however, not to the level as demonstrated by the Japan-only WRX STI tS TYPE RA (pictured) which went on sale in Subaru’s home market yesterday (July 2).
Subaru Australia sources confirmed its limited edition car will sport 17-inch gold-finished wheels, an STI rear spoiler and Recaro front seats. It will, of course, be finished in Subaru’s signature WR Blue.
Subaru will offer 300 units to Australian customers.
That’s the same number of WRX STI tS TYPE RA Imprezas that will be offered to Japanese customers.
Built to order, the Japanese tS must be ordered by Decemebr 23. Up to 200 customers can additionally option their tS with STI’s NBR CHALLENGE PACKAGE. No price has been disclosed for the special edition car, nor the NBR kit which commemorates Subaru’s efforts at the Nurburgring 24 Hour production car race.
The tS is based on a WRX STI spec C. Modifications include faster-ratio steering, Brembo monoblock brake callipers (the front gets six-piston units) and STI tuned ‘upside down’ front struts and fully-adjustable rear dampers. Addition suspension and chassis braces are fitted and STI designed 18-inch alloy wheels are standard. The tS also features a Recaro interior, unique paintwork (Tangerine Orange Pearl) and special badging. (A full feature listing of the tS is shown below)
The NBR pack adds a different-design forged alloy wheel, alternate rear spoiler and interior trim changes.
Oh, and, of course, the famed Nordschleife track sticker.
No prizes for guessing which limited edition car the motoring.com.au would prefer. But don’t call us -- letters of complaint direct to Subaru Australia please...
