The Finer Details

The G9L is XPeng's largest SUV to date, measuring 5120mm long, 1998mm wide and 1788mm tall, with a 3100mm wheelbase.

Two seating configurations will be available, including six-seat and seven-seat layouts, with the brand focusing on passenger accommodation across all three rows.

Under the skin, the G9L rides on a suspension package comprising double-wishbone front suspension, a multi-link rear end, dual-chamber air suspension and continuous damping control. Rear-wheel steering is also fitted.

The headline mechanical addition is XPeng's new Kunpeng range-extender electric vehicle system. Unlike a conventional hybrid, the petrol engine acts as a generator and does not directly drive the wheels.

The REEV uses a 63kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and is claimed to deliver up to 287km of electric-only WLTP range, or up to 1200km of combined driving range.

Outputs are rated at 430kW and 695Nm, with XPeng claiming a 0-100km/h sprint time of 5.4 seconds. The company says DC fast charging can replenish the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in about 12 minutes.

A pure-electric version will also be offered. It uses a 110kWh battery and is claimed to deliver up to 553km of WLTP range, while matching the REEV's 430kW and 695Nm outputs.

XPeng says future versions of its Next Generation Pilot (NGP) driver-assistance system will support functions including navigation-based driving assistance, lane changes, intersection assistance and automated parking. The company intends to roll out NGP technology in Australia and New Zealand during 2027.

Safety features include nine airbags, automatic emergency braking that operates at speeds of up to 150km/h and a tyre blowout stability-control function.

The Road Ahead

XPeng has not yet confirmed Australian pricing, model grades or launch timing for the G9L.

More details on local specifications are expected in the coming months as the Chinese brand continues to expand its Australian line-up.
