XPeng L03 launches with range-extender option

XPeng has revealed Australian pricing and specifications for its new L03 small SUV, with the five-seat coupe-style model introducing the Chinese brand’s range-extender technology to Australia.

The L03 will be available in Australia in four variants. The range opens with the RWD Standard Range at $41,900, followed by the RWD Long Range at $46,900 and AWD Performance Ultra at $53,900.

The range-extender version, launching later this year, will also cost $41,900, offering price parity between the range-extender and full battery-electric versions. It is the first XPeng model in Australia to use the company’s Kunpeng Range Extender Technology, combining a 37kWh LFP battery with a 1.5-litre petrol engine.

The Standard Range offers 445km of range and a 180kW motor, with a 0-100km/h time of 7.5 seconds, while the Long Range increases range to 520km and cuts the sprint time to 6.6sec.

The AWD Performance is the performance-focused option, combining 285kW with all-wheel drive for a 0-100km/h time of 4.5 seconds and a claimed 440km range.

The AWD Performance Ultra adds three Turing AI chips, XPeng’s VLA 2.0 system, 20-inch wheels and yellow brake calipers.

XPeng claims more than 200km of WLTP electric range and more than 1000km of combined range for the range-extender, while the battery can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in approximately 20 minutes at up to 123kW.

The L03 measures 4650mm long, 1920mm wide and 1600mm high, with a 2850mm wheelbase and seating for five. Its coupe-SUV design includes frameless doors, a fastback roofline and a claimed drag coefficient of 0.228.

The cabin features a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, a 26.8-inch head-up display, ambient lighting, intelligent climate control, lounge-style seating and 37 storage spaces. Towing capacity is rated at up to 1500kg.

Standard equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated power seats, and massage functions.

The L03 also introduces XPeng’s latest NGP intelligent driving technology, based on the company’s VLA 2.0 physical-world foundation model. XPeng says the system is designed to understand and respond to complex real-world driving scenarios rather than relying solely on individual driver-assistance functions.

The system will be progressively rolled out in Australia and New Zealand from 2027, with the L03 equipped with three Turing AI chips providing up to 2250 TOPS of computing power.

The L03 will also be the first XPeng model to use integrated Google Maps following the company’s global partnership with Google.

Although it has not yet been officially rated, the L03 is designed to target a five-star Euro NCAP rating. Safety systems include blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, rear cross-traffic alert and driver monitoring.

There are six exterior colours, including the pale-purple hero colour, with light- or dark-grey interior trim options available.

Australia and New Zealand are among the first overseas markets to receive XPeng’s Kunpeng range-extender technology, with the company saying the L03 has undergone local testing and road-condition adaptation ahead of its arrival.

Customers can now register their interest online, with deliveries expected to begin later this year.

The L03 is the third of five new XPeng models planned for Australia within six months, following the updated G6 and recently launched X9. The rollout forms part of XPeng’s strategy to bring its latest-generation vehicles to Australia in close sync with China.
