Yeti to go into production
Skoda's lifestyle concept has been given the green light for production at the company's Kvasiny plant in the Czech RepublicThe concept car Skoda unveiled at the AIMS in Sydney recently is bound for production. Skoda will produce the flamboyant design (more here) at the Kvasiny plant in the company's home country, the Czech Republic.
Putting the Yeti into production is one element of a broader plan to consolidate and expand production at the existing facilities, in the face of a glut of production within Volkswagen circles. Some of that glut will be soaked up by transferring some production responsibility for the Octavia to the Volkswagen plant at Bratislava, in neighbouring Slovakia.
Skoda will continue to build the Octavia at the Mlada Boleslav plant, but current demand for the car is outstripping supply, forcing the company to seek the assistance of Volkswagen.
The Yeti is a small car with space for friends and luggage for a weekend away or other recreational purposes. It has some of the hallmarks of an SUV or small MPV, but doesn't quite fit within either camp.
Skoda has not announced plans for the car to be sold in Australia.
