Zeekr 8X debuts in China

Flagship PHEV luxury SUV debuts with more than 320km electric range and a very posh exterior

The News

The covers have officially come off the Zeekr 8X in China, ahead of its anticipated launch in its domestic market this year, with the flagship plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUV promised to offer a whopping 328km of electric-only driving range and the option of five or six seats.

The Finer Details

Based heavily on the larger Zeekr 9X flagship SUV, the 8X stretches to 5100mm long, 1998mm wide and 1780mm high, on a 3069mm wheelbase, making it almost as long as a BMW X7 and just a little wider than an Audi Q7.

As we’ve previously reported, the 8X will likely use the same triple e-motor set-up as the 9X, which gets a 70kW battery pack claimed to be the largest ever fitted to a hybrid vehicle.

The tri-motor PHEV system used in the larger 9X is good for a whopping 1030kW of combined power in top-spec form, meaning a range-topping version of the 8X could produce similarly absurd power.

A smaller 55.1kWh battery pack will also be offered in the 8X to deliver around 256km of EV-only range, according to new information shared with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

It also reveals the 8X’s PHEV system will comprise a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 205kW.

Key details are yet to be confirmed, although according to images shared by Zeekr, the large SUV will come with electronic side-steps, Matrix LED headlights either side of a huge chrome ‘waterfall’ grille, a full-width rear light bar, and a ‘one-piece’ hood (bonnet).

The interior will no doubt be filled with luxe goodies, and according to leaked images shared by CarNewsChina, comes fitted with a roof-mounted entertainment screen, light coloured leather-appointed upholstery, and what looks to be a climate control panel mounted behind the centre console.

Naim-branded speakers also feature in the images, along with a large central infotainment screen and a centre console with a pair of big grab handles either side.
