2010 Lexus GX460 breaks cover

A new Prado under the skin, the Lexus GX460 makes its debut in China today

The new 2010 Lexus GX460 has broken cover at the 2009 Auto Guangzhou motorshow in China.

Based on the Toyota 150 Series LandCruiser Prado, the GX460 luxury SUV slots in between the Lexus RX and LX series. It replaces the GX470, which is based on the 120 Series Prado, but powered by a 4.7-litre V8. This vehicle has never been offered for sale in Australia.

Compared to its utilitarian donor vehicle, the Lexus GX460 gets a different front end design with new look headlights, modified front apron and grille, together with lashings of chrome. The rear end has also been given the luxury treatment with updated brake light clusters, a revised rear apron and chrome highlights.

Power for the new model comes from a 4.6-litre V8 petrol engine outputting 224kW/446Nm.

The Lexus SUV will come with 10 airbags as standard, while the Pre-Collision System will improve the safety of the vehicle by prepping its driving aids in the event of a collision.

As standard, the vehicle also offers a power-folding third row and the interior of the GX460 gets the Lexus treatment with high quality leather upholstery, a redesigned centre console and instrument cluster, plus a rear seat DVD entertainment system with twin LCD screens.

Because the Lexus GX series has never been offered in Australia, it's unlikely the new model will be added to the local line-up. A Lexus spokesperson told the Carsales Network: "We are not aware of GX460 being made available for the Australian market at this time."

The 2009 Auto Guangzhou motorshow in China opens today, the 24th of November.
