BMW Australia has announced pricing and specification details for two new entry variants within the flagship 8 Series line-up, the 840i Coupe and 840i Convertible.
Starting from $202,900 in coupe form and $217,900 as a drop-top, the 840i duo represent a circa $70,000 saving on the existing V8-powered M850i, BMW Australia’s solitary 8 Series offering until now. Both 840i variants will arrive in showrooms from September.
The 840i makes use of a petrol 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six, good for 250kW and 500Nm. The six sends drive to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic, bringing a 0-100km/h time of 5.0 seconds (5.3 seconds in the case of the convertible).
Despite the affordable entry point, the 840i Coupe and 840i Convertible boast an extensive equipment list: 20-inch alloy wheels with run-flat tyres, keyless entry and start, heated and ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging, a 10.25-inch centre display with BMW’s latest 7.0 operating system, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, BMW Laser headlights and more.
Coupe variants get gesture control and a 16-speaker surround sound system, while the convertible adds BMW’s ‘air collar’ heating system and a 12-speaker sound system.
On the performance front, both models offer 374mm M Sport brakes as standard, an M Sport differential and rear wheel steering.
BMW’s M Sport package ($3900 for Coupe, $3400 for Convertible) optionally adds new 20-inch alloys with performance tyres, larger 395mm front disc brakes, M seat belts, M rear spoiler (coupe only), M Sports seats and tyre pressure indicator.
The 2019 BMW 840i Coupe and 840i Convertible will arrive in Australian showrooms from September.
