Subaru has released another teaser of the second-generation Subaru BRZ coupe and revealed that it will be officially unveiled on November 18.
Sadly, the latest official glimpse of the BRZ is only a partial shot of the front-end, but it reveals that the 2022 Subaru coupe will get reshaped new headlights that integrate LED daytime running lights along the lower leading edge.
Look closer and there's a more sculptured front bonnet and bumper, and what looks like new lower boomerang-shaped air intakes.
Previous teases have shown that the Subaru BRZ and its Toyota 86 sibling will not stray too far from the current compact proportions and still feature a sleek two-door silhouette.
As well as the new headlights, spy shots have suggested that the BRZ will get a large honeycomb grille up front while at the rear there will be a pair of slimline LED lights that are interlinked with a lightbar.
The rear-end also carries a redesigned diffuser that will incorporate the Subaru's new dual exhaust tips.
Beneath the skin, the latest reports from Japan indicate the two affordable coupes have not switched to Toyota’s newer, more advanced TNGA platform and will instead use a development of the current platform to reduce costs.
One of the biggest changes for the new Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ will be the adoption of a new engine.
Almost certain to be packing Subaru’s newer, more powerful 2.4-litre four-cylinder FA24 boxer engine, the sleek Japanese twins should crank out at least 162kW of power and 240Nm of torque. This compares with the current 2.0-litre boxer engine’s 147kW/205Nm.
Both manual and automatic gearboxes are again expected, the latter tipped to be a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Once revealed in the coming days, our sources suggest that both the new Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 will roll into Australian showrooms around November next year – some three months later than the August arrival previously anticipated.
The Subaru BRZ is currently priced from $35,270 plus on-road costs and the Toyota 86 opens the ledger at just $32,180 – cheaper than some top-spec small hatchbacks.
Stay tuned because Subaru is expected to continue to post further glimpses of the BRZ before its full unveiling on November 18.
