A new 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander LS Black Edition headlines an upgrade for the Japanese brand’s all-important mid-size SUV range, priced from $41,490 plus on-road costs.
Due to arrive in showrooms early in the New Year, the MY23 Mitsubishi Outlander also brings important safety updates including rear autonomous emergency braking (AEB) for all model grades and rear cross traffic alert and automatic high beam for the entry-level ES.
However, parts supply constraints have forced a downgrade to the ES model’s infotainment system from the current 9.0-inch unit (with wireless Apple CarPlay) to an older 8.0-inch unit which only supports a wired connection.
Price increases of up to $1000 have been applied to all continuing models (see the table below), while the LS Black Edition 2WD slots into the range alongside the regular Outlander LS, adding black 20-inch alloy wheels, premium paint and a variety of other black detail elements for the door mirrors, bumper garnishes, grille, etc.
The black theme continues inside with a black headliner, pillar trims, gearshift panel and black suede/leather upholstery.
Other equipment highlights include keyless entry/start, a 9.0-inch infotainment system, smartphone mirroring, sat-nav, wireless phone charger, six-speaker sound system, dual-zone climate control and a third row of seating.
Drive comes courtesy of the same 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine (135kW/245Nm) as the rest of the non-hybrid Outlander range, sent to the front wheels via a continuously variable transmission (CVT). All-wheel drive is not available on the Black Edition.
The MY23 Outlander also ushers in extra safety equipment for the flagship Exceed and Exceed Touring variants, which pick up Mitsubishi’s ‘MI-PILOT’ driving assistant suite which adds traffic jam assist, steering control assist, traffic sign recognition and steering wheel touch monitor.
A heated steering wheel and sequential front indicators have also been added to both top-shelf models, while the Exceed Touring gains heated rear seats and two new two-tone colourways: Stirling Silver/Black Mica and Titanium/Black Mica.
Production of the MY23 variants began last month, with the first examples due to arrive in January.
