2023 Nissan Patrol Warrior teased again

This time we actually get to see the tough new homegrown Patrol Warrior and it looks and sounds great

Nissan Australia has released another teaser for its upcoming 2023 Nissan Patrol Warrior, and this time we actually get to see – and hear – the big, tough new homegrown off-road SUV in broad daylight, albeit under detail-warping camo wrap.

That said, the wrap can’t hide the tickled Patrol’s key exterior features, like its increased ride height, new front bumper and enlarged rolling stock, but most of these modifications are par for the course when referring to a Premcar-prepared Warrior product.

But we can also see the previously teased side-exit exhaust outlets – like those seen on the Mercedes-AMG G 63 – are missing from the pre-production prototype, which could please some die-head off-roaders given the swish rhomboid exits would’ve been prime candidates to be crushed, scraped or caught while traversing technical off-road terrain.

However, carsales understands the final production version will definitely come with side exhaust outlets, which have been camouflaged on this development vehicle to disguise their existence.

And as you can hear in this teaser video showing the vehicle rumbling across outback Victoria, the Patrol Warrior’s exhaust note sounds pretty hairy-chested, even if there’s no other changes to its 5.6-litre petrol V8.

In stark contrast to the Nissan Navara PRO-4X Warrior, the hero Patrol doesn’t look to be wearing any sort of bull bar up front, and instead seems to be fitted with a redesigned bumper.

This strays from the traditional Warrior recipe in terms of off-road upgrades, but the new bumper still looks like it will improve the Patrol’s approach angle in tandem with the extra ride height.

Breakover and departure angles will also be enhanced by the extra ground clearance, while the obviously chunkier all-terrain tyres will do a better job of maintain traction over loose and wet surfaces.

Contrary to reports elsewhere, the first Nissan Patrol Warrior is not still a year away, but will be produced and released by the end of 2023, and will continue to be available until mid-2025, when the next-generation Y63 Patrol is due to arrive in Australia.
