2024 Abarth 695 75° Anniversario revealed

Plans for Australia are still being fleshed out but odds are good for special-edition Italian hot hatch

It’s been a minute or so, which means it’s time for a new special-edition Abarth 695, except this time around the limited-run pint-size city-car is commemorating something quite special.

Abarth is about to turn 75 and so it has revealed the 2024 Abarth 695 75° Anniversario – a limited-edition hot hatch of which just 1368 units will be produced globally in honour of its 1368cc engine hiding under the bonnet.

Australian plans and pricing haven’t yet been confirmed, but carsales understands Stellantis Australia is looking at the business case for a small allocation.

The 75th anniversary 695’s 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine outputs a hearty 134kW/250Nm (2kW more than standard) and drives the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission or an optional five-speed Dualogic automated manual.

Zero-100km/h acceleration takes a claimed 6.7 seconds which puts the sexed-up 695 on par with the Hyundai i20 N and now-defunct Ford Fiesta ST, while the top speed is an equally similar 225km/h.

The fizzy little powertrain is advertised by a Record Monza valved exhaust, complemented by Koni FSD shock absorbers at all four corners and a high-performance Brembo braking package featuring 305x28mm ventilated and perforated discs all-round.

Previous special-edition 695s have traditionally been more about aesthetics than mechanical upgrades and that largely applies here too, with the black beauty donning a striking gold livery and wheel combination that’s sure to attract plenty of attention.

The roof for instance is adorned with a massive scorpion and there are gold Abarth logos on both sides, plus ‘75° Anniversario’ decals in the shape of pistons behind the doors and exclusive gold 17-inch alloy wheels shod with sticky Michelin Pilot Sport rubber.

Myriad unique touches have been applied to the interior to help maintain the sense of exclusivity and occasion, with key standouts being the black Alcantara dashboard, Sabelt carbon seats and a couple of extra ‘75°’ logos.

The rest of the Anniversario’s kit list reads the same as the full-time variants: a 7.0-inch infotainment interface with DAB digital radio, sat-nav and smartphone mirroring, a 7.0-inch TFT driver’s display, climate control and a premium sound system.

“Abarth is turning 75 soon, an important milestone and yet another record for the Scorpion brand, which is still fuelling the dreams of fans worldwide,” Abarth said.

“This anniversary is an opportunity to embark on a journey through the Scorpion’s history made of records and victories; and discover a symbol of the brand's glorious past and its bright future: a fresh, sporty, and stylish vehicle which perfectly represents the brand's racing spirit and its ongoing commitment to innovation.”
