Abarth 695 Rivale Special Edition priced from $45k

Limited edition hatch and cabriolet to arrive early 2019

The enduring Abarth sports hatch and cabriolet will take on a nautical theme early next year with the introduction of the 695 Rivale special edition.

Inspired by Riva Yachts, the hatch and cabriolet pairing will be available in Australia from early 2019 and will be strictly limited to 35 examples, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) confirmed this week.

Each is based on the existing Abarth 595 Competizione, and is priced from $44,990 in hatch form and $48,990 in cabriolet guise – a circa $13,000 premium on the 595.

Distinguishing the 695 Rivale are appointments including satin chrome exterior highlights, 17-inch bespoke alloy wheels, xenon headlights and requisite Rivale badging. The cabriolet version includes a blue soft top fabric roof.

Inside, the changes include a wooden dashboard insert, blue leather seats and an upgrade 7.0-inch TFT driver’s instrument display that lends itself to the nautical theme.

As with the Abarth 595 Competizione, the Rivale packs a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine that is good for 132kW. Gearbox choices include a five-speed manual and five-speed robotised manual transmission.

Stakeholders have pointed to a March arrival date for the Abarth 695 Rivale. Order books are open now.
