2024 Cupra Formentor VZe Tribe Edition arrives

Three-grand premium brings some unique cosmetic touches and extra toys for electrified Spanish crossover

The 2024 Cupra Formentor VZe Tribe Edition has arrived Down Under to continue the Spanish brand’s hot PHEV sales streak, priced from $67,990 plus-on road costs – $3000 upstream of the regular VZe.

Just 300 examples of the plug-in hybrid crossover are being made available to Australia and the package is headlined by its black and copper 19-inch alloy wheels, 360-degree camera, mirror memory function and blue leather-appointed and heated bucket seats with power adjustment and memory for the driver.

The rest of the equipment list reads identically to the standard Formentor VZe’s, highlights of which include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 12-inch infotainment touch-screen, adaptive dampers, tri-zone climate control, adaptive cruise control, powered tailgate, LED exterior lighting, metallic paint and smartphone mirroring.

No changes have been made to the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol/electric plug-in hybrid system, which continues to output a combined 180kW/400Nm via a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Zero-100km/h acceleration is a claimed seven seconds flat, while combined fuel economy is stated at just 1.9L/100km.

Cupra Australia director Ben Wilks said the VZe was the most popular variant of the Formentor range so far this year, with the angry mid-size crossover hatch/wagon in turn being the brand’s most popular model.

“The Formentor is our most popular vehicle and the VZe and VZx flagship models now make up significantly more than half of the dynamic medium SUV’s sales,” he said.

“Here we have delivered Formentor VZe customers the style and design elements of the VZx.

“Not only are there enormous savings to be had for eligible salary sacrificing customers thanks to the federal government’s FBT exemptions for PHEVs and BEVs, but now they can access the most stylish, dynamic and technology-rich PHEV in this price range.”

Plug-in hybrids will only be eligible for the government’s fringe tax exemption until April 1, 2025 – a move that drew criticism from PHEV producers when announced.

How much does the 2024 Cupra Formentor cost?
V – $51,990
VZ – $56,990
VZe – $64,990
VZe Tribe Edition – $67,990
