2024 Lexus LX range grows in size and price

Price increases for Japanese luxury brand’s flagship SUV as two new seven-seat variants join the fray

The 2024 Lexus LX range has been bolstered with the addition of two new seven-seat variants, taking the number of variants in the full-size luxury off-road SUV model range from seven to nine.

The new three-row variants are both equipped with the mid-range Sports Luxury trim and have been introduced in conjunction with a blanket $5500 price increase for all pre-existing variants – which continue to attract two-year waitlists – pushing the LX starting price up to $157,061 plus on-road costs.

Opting for the extra row of seating in the V6 diesel-powered LX 500d Sports Luxury carries a $2600 premium over the equivalent five-seater, whereas the V6 petrol-powered LX 600 seven-seater costs an extra $3800 over its five-set counterpart – see the full pricing breakdown below.

Lexus says the different price premiums is due the varying impacts of adding a third row to their respective donor vehicles: “Compared to the five-seat Sports Luxury, seven-seat LX 600 petrol grades delete the existing tonneau parcel shelf while the LX 500d diesel also drops its soft-close doors and 30-litre auxiliary fuel tank.”

Toyota’s luxury brand says the new variants are being added to offer more choice to LX buyers in Australia, where two versions of the all-new Lexus GX will come with seven seats as standard, but where the seven-seat Lexus RX L is no longer available.

More LX variants will theoretically ease the backlog of orders for the rest of the range and in turn shorten wait times.

However, Lexus hasn’t provided a reason for the LX’s range-wide $5500 price increase, though it’s likely to be related to the ever-increasing production and shipping costs impacting the auto industry since COVID kicked off in 2020.

Toyota recently added $3775 to the asking price of its entire 300 Series LandCruiser range with no meaningful justification or spec upgrade, so it makes sense that its upmarket Lexus sibling is also subject to an increase.
