A fresh facelift of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport has been spotted in Thailand and subsequently leaked online, showing a chunkier exterior design and mild cabin updates for the large SUV that draw from the new-generation Triton ute.
As published by the Kurdistan Automotive Blog and Car250 and Autoindustriya, the images of the new ‘QG’ model reveal a beefy redesigned grille, new faux skid plates, revised rear bumper, fresh alloy wheels and, inside, an all-new three-spoke steering wheel.
The new tiller is one of several elements lifted from the latest Triton, however recent reports claiming the updated Pajero Sport will feature a single-turbo version of the ute’s new 2.4-litre twin-turbo diesel engine have been discredited, with carsales sources assuring us no changes have been made under the bonnet - at least for our market.
According to our contact, it wouldn’t make financial sense for Mitsubishi to engineer a new powertrain with next to no tangible power or torque improvement over the mill it replaces for a model with less than two years left on the market.
It had been speculated the new engine would output 135kW/430Nm and possibly be paired with a six-speed automatic compared to the current engine’s 133kW/430Nm figures and eight-speed auto transmission.
Expect the all-new Pajero Sport due next year (or possibly early 2026) to feature the same 150kW/470Nm outputs as the latest Triton, upon which it will be based.
Until then, however, the flagship GSR version (Elite Edition in Thailand) of the facelifted Pajero Sport will score more black exterior trim as well as a new black and red colourway for its quilted leather interior.
Production of the updated ‘QG’ has clearly already started in Thailand, meaning an official announcement should be coming from Mitsubishi soon ahead of the first examples arriving Down Under in the coming months, possibly mid-year.
The current Pajero Sport starts from $44,940 plus on-road costs in base GLX 4x2 guise and $49,940 for the 4x4 version.
