2024 Peugeot e-2008 now Australia’s cheapest electric SUV

Blistering run-out promo trims almost $25,000 and sees small French SUV tie with base MG ZS EV for the title

The 2024 Peugeot e-2008 GT has had more than $20,000 slashed from its asking price – temporarily – making it one of Australia’s most affordable new EVs.

Usually retailing from $59,990 plus on-road costs, the compact electric SUV is currently in run-out and priced from just $39,990 drive-away until the end of June while Peugeot Australia prepares for the arrival of the facelifted version.

The discount actually translates to a total saving closer to $25,000 by the time it’s on your driveway, putting the e-2008 on par with the MG ZS Excite EV – Australia’s cheapest electric SUV – and thrusting it into the heartland of MG, BYD and GWM territory.

Factor in the Pug’s loaded equipment list and the value factor continues to increase, especially given its WLTP cruising range is virtually on par with the MG’s (328km versus 320km), though it can’t match the ZS for sheer firepower (100kW/260Nm v 130kW/280Nm).

“For a limited time, you can get behind the wheel of the 100 per cent electric E-2008 GT SUV from an unmissable $39,990 drive-away,” Peugeot said.

“This is your chance to own European sophistication and style at an incredible driveaway price that won’t last.”

Likely to upset previous buyers of the e-2008 and the model’s resale values, the promo pricing applies to all new and demonstrator MY23 e-2008 GTs purchased and delivered between May 1 and June 30.

That suggests the facelifted model will be released next quarter and it will almost certainly be accompanied by a price premium over the e-2008’s previous $59,990 starting figure.

The extra cash will be somewhat justified by a bigger 54kWh battery pack (v 50kWh), a more powerful motor (115kW), an extra 61km of range – liberated by the bigger power source and sleeker exterior design – and obligatory tech updates.

Peugeot Australia released facelifted petrol variants of the e-2008 last month, with price increases of close to $1100.
