Chery-owned Jaecoo has announced pricing for its flagship 2025 Jaecoo J8 large SUV ahead of its launch in Australia this June, with pricing to start from just $49,990 drive-away.
Joining the mid-size Jaecoo J7 in Australia's line-up, the new Jaecoo J8 is a larger SUV that's been created to rival the likes of the Hyundai Santa Fe, Mazda CX-80 and Toyota Kluger that dominate large family sized SUVs.
Just two versions of the Chinese brand's J8 will initially be offered - the entry J8 Track 2WD that costs $49,990 drive-away, or the most well-equipped four-wheel drive J8 Ridge AWD that's priced from $54,990.
At that money the drive-away price for the new Jaecoo is more than $10,000 cheaper than a Kluger ($60,920) before on-road costs added and an extra $3010+ more affordable than a Santa Fe ($53,000) before on-roads are included.
The catch is both J8 variants are strictly five-seaters, while its established rivals boast a third row of seats.
It's thought Jaecoo will remedy the lack of seven or eight seats later down the line by introducing further model grades, that could be joined by both plug-in hybrid powertrains of both the J7 and J8.
Until then, both the front- and all-wheel drive J8 will come with just one powertrain – a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol that produces 183kW and 385Nm of torque.
Paired with an eight-speed automatic, the Track 2WD averages 8.3L/100km, while the Ridge AWD consumes 8.6L/100km.
When it comes to equipment the Track comes with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment that offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a powerful 14-speaker sound system.
Leather heated, cooled, massage front seats are also included, plus 20-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps and an electric tailgate.
When it comes to safety Jaecoo hasn't been tempted to cut costs, there's eight airbags, tyre pressure monitoring, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitor, lane departure warning, a 360-degree camera view and driver fatigue detection.
Choose the J8 Ridge and you get the firm's torque-vectoring all-wheel drive, heated and cooled rear seats, ambient lighting, rear privacy glass, an onboard air freshener, a suede headliner, auto-dimming rear view mirror and second-row airbags.
Like the smaller J7, the latest J8 is protected by the carmaker's eight-year/unlimited kilometre warranty.
On sale from this June, the 2025 Jaecoo J8 can be test driven at participating dealerships from the middle of May.
