Chery Australia has released initial specifications for its inbound Stockman dual-cab ute, which will arrive in Aussie showrooms later this year as the world’s first diesel PHEV, delivering up to 800Nm of torque and a 3500kg braked towing capacity.

The Chinese brand’s first dual-cab ute will come powered by a ‘Diesel Super Hybrid’ powertrain, comprising a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel engine and electric assistance.
Although a quad electric motor system was originally touted, Chery has yet to confirm how many e-motors are behind the Stockman’s 350kW/800Nm combined outputs.
That torque figure is a good 100Nm clear of the BYD Shark 6 Performance, despite producing the same maximum 350kW combined power as its petrol PHEV competitor. It’s also 50kW/50Nm up on the GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV (300kW/750Nm).
The Stockman’s “robust” chassis is underpinned by double wishbone front suspension and leaf springs at the rear.
Chery claims up to 100km of electric-only driving range from the ute’s yet-to-be detailed battery pack, though that’s based on less stringent NEDC testing, so expect a bit less.

The Stockman measures 5450mm long, 2010mm wide, 1890mm tall and sits on a 3250mm wheelbase. The rear tub stretches 1560mm long, 1560mm wide and 500mm deep.
Chery has confirmed 3500kg braked and 750kg unbraked towing capacities for the new ute, along with a ground clearance of at least 247mm and the standard fitment of all-terrain tyres.
The Chery Stockman will arrive in Australian showrooms before the end of the year (Q4), initially with the diesel plug-in hybrid detailed in this report, with petrol-electric (PHEV) version set to come in 2027.
Further details, including trim grades, standard equipment and local pricing, will be announced closer to launch.
