Chery Australia has engaged Premcar, the firm behind Nissan’s Warrior program as well as the new Mitsubishi Triton Raider, to assist in the local testing and possibly tuning of its upcoming Stockman ute.

The Finer Details
An important note here is that Chery hasn’t tapped Premcar to solely develop the Stockman’s suspension and the resulting ride/handling characteristics, but rather to assess and provide feedback.
“Australia is one of the world’s most demanding ute markets, and we know our customers expect a vehicle that performs confidently across everything from urban streets to highways, construction sites and remote off-road tracks,” Chery Australia COO Lucas Harris said.
Having clearly already had some experience with the Stockman, Premcar CEO Bernie Quinn heaped praise on the plug-in hybrid diesel’s chassis, stating Chery had “gone the extra mile with its first-ever” ute.
“Chery has created very specific attributes for the Stockman’s ride and handling, and we are very pleased to help them test and validate their work in a variety of Australian conditions,” he said.
The Road Ahead
Exactly how extensive the testing and validation program is remains to be seen, but given how seriously Chery and other Chinese brands are taking the Australian market these days, especially the ute segment, we can’t imagine it’ll be basic.
