2027 Mitsubishi Pajero locked in for big comeback

Mitsubishi has officially confirmed it will reveal the all-new Pajero next month, with the 4WD SUV set to be revealed on September 2 after previously leaked details of the revived legend surfaced online.

Mitsubishi has officially put a date on the Pajero’s return, confirming the all-new model will be unveiled on September 2, 2026.

The new flagship will use a ladder-frame platform, not a monocoque configuration like it’s predecessor, and will benefit from Mitsubishi’s Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system.

This suggests the go-anywhere off-road focus that made the Pajero famous will return.

Mitsubishi is also reviving the iconic ‘triple multi meter’ with the new version’s digital display an ultra-modern interpretation highlighting key off-road info.

The nameplate’s Dakar Rally heritage is another major focus, with Mitsubishi saying the lessons learned through repeated participation in the world’s toughest endurance rally have become part of the new Pajero’s DNA.

But Mitsubishi says the new Pajero will be about more than off-road ability, with long-distance comfort and confidence also key priorities.

“When I was tasked with developing the Pajero, my first question was: ‘What truly defines a PAJERO?’” said Mitsubishi chief vehicle engineer Takaaki Matsumoto.

“The Pajero has gained global trust and admiration, proving itself on countless roads and in various environments.

“Our challenge was to honour this legacy while evolving it for a new era. For us, the essence of the Pajero extends beyond exceptional off-road capability. It also involves delivering long-distance comfort, providing confidence in any driving situation, and expanding the possibilities of where people can go and what they can experience,” said the Mitsubishi engineer.

The original Pajero debuted in 1982 and became synonymous with four-wheel-drive capability, helped by its extensive Dakar Rally success, winning the event 12 times.

More details of the all-new Mitsubishi Pajero are expected when it is revealed on September 2.

Mitsubishi has not yet confirmed Australian specifications or pricing but has previously stated it will be on sale here by December 2026.

For now, though, Pajero’s comeback has a date and the first official details suggest Mitsubishi is aiming to combine off-road DNA with a much more sophisticated new-generation package.
