Mercedes-Benz will launch the most powerful production four-door sedan of all time when it launches the Mercedes-AMG GT 73 4-door Coupe in 2020.
Set to produce at least 600kW from its advanced plug-in hybrid version of the twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8, the Mercedes-AMG GT 73 4-door Coupe will out-gun all its rivals, including the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-hybrid – its closest rival – which currently manages 500kW.
Already caught testing, the Mercedes-AMG GT 73 4-door Coupe is believed to evolve on the 2017 Geneva motor show concept that combined a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with a powerful electric motor and a lithium-ion battery.
Despite the extra weight of the hybrid add-ons, the all-wheel drive concept car was claimed capable of a 0-100km/h sprint of "less than 3.0 seconds", plus a pure-electric range of up to 50km.
It's thought the production version, which will revive the famous Mercedes-AMG '73' designation, has been produced with the sole intention of it becoming the most powerful (and quickest) production four-door car of all time.
