9ff TR 1000 clocks 391.7km/h... watch it in action

Those nutters from German Porsche-tweaking firm 9ff have been at it again, but this time they've provided video footage for our collective entertainment -- just the thing for a slow news day.

We previously reported on the 9ff GT9 (here), a Bugatti Veyron-belting contraption that clocked a v-max of 409km/h.

Now the folks from 9ff have returned to the Papenburg test track in northern Germany to squeeze every last kay from its new TR 1000, a Porsche 911 Turbo-derived projectile that looks remarkably saner than the outlandish GT9.

Despite its relatively sedate appearance, the TR 1000 still managed to clock a highly impressive 391.7km/h and you can see the proof here.

Although the company hasn't revealed too much in the way of technical nitty-gritty, what we do know is that the massive power and torque hike (to 735kW and 1040Nm respectively!) was achieved via larger turbochargers, a modified intercooler, sport camshafts, titanium conrods and crankshaft, a sports air filter, a revised ECU, and a high-performance exhaust system.

The TR 1000's accelerative feats are just as impressive as its v-max capabilities, with the 0-100km/h dash knocked off in 3.2sec, 100-200km/h in 4.8sec, 200-300km/h in 8sec and 300-360km/h  in 16sec.

Given its appetite for high speeds, the 9ff labcoats devised a bespoke (but understated) aero kit comprising a front splitter, modified side skirts, rear diffuser and a large rear wing. Although it currently tops out at just over 390 kays, the folks from 9ff believe the TR 1000 could eventually top 400km/h with a bit more aerodynamic fettling.

The tweaked Porsche also cops a high-performance braking system and an adjustable sports suspension with aluminium dampers.

Reportedly built for a Greek millionaire's 25-year-old girlfriend, the conversion from 911 Turbo to 9ff TR-1000 is said to have cost €130,000 (about $208,550 in our money), virtually doubling the price of the donor car.

Incidentally, 9ff was set up a by a bloke named Jan Fatthauer, a former RUF employee who felt the latter's offerings were a tad tame. Thus in 2001 he set up his own tuning firm, and the 9ff name was coined after his wife, Frauke Fatthauer.
