AC Schnitzer fettles BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe

BMW’s 6 Series Gran Coupe has only just landed on our shores, but German tweaker AC Schnitzer has already worked its magic on the cars to boost performance while beefing up the looks of the Bavarian four-door ‘coupe’.

The Aachen-based tuning house has focused its efforts on the 640d and and 640i, with the former’s power output being ramped up from 230kW to 264kW, while the latter’s rises from 235kW to 264kW.

The official PR bumpf doesn’t elaborate on how the extra oomph was liberated, making mention only of the AC Schnitzer twin sports rear silencer with chromed ‘Sports Trim’ tailpipes.

Hauling the car up is taken care of by AC Schnitzer eight-piston high performance brakes, while dynamics are allegedly sharpened up by a bespoke suspension set-up with stiffer springs.

The cosmetic/aero upgrades include a unique front spoiler, chromed front grille with chrome strip, rear skirt extension and rear skirt protective film. Meanwhile, the wheelarches are stuffed full of chunky 19, 20 or 21-inch rims in a range of designs and colours.

Inside, there’s an AC Schnitzer aluminium cover for the i-Drive system controller, an aluminium foot rest and pedals and AC Schnitzer velour floor mats, along with an AC Schnitzer ‘Evo’ sports airbag steering wheel.

It all looks rather tasty, but if it were up to us, we'd do away with the decals on the flanks. Other than that, double thumbs-up.

Sadly for us, the Schnitzer-fettled Gran Coupe is targeted predominantly at Euro buyers, and the only way we’re ever likely to see it here is via the grey-import route.
