BMW's legendary M division is famous for taking garden-variety BMW cars and transforming them into highly strung sports cars. They took the meek BMW 3 Series and made the sizzling V8-powered M3, and more recently they turned the 5 Series into the fire-breathing twin turbo V8 M5 .
And now the M division's latest masterwork is a carbon-fibre bicycle, the BMW M Carbon Racer.
But wait, there's more...
The performance equation has been multiplied by another factor -- beyond BMW, beyond M division -- and one step further up the go-fast chain with aftermarket German tuner AC Schnitzer getting in on the act, creating an even higher performance version of the $3600 treadley.
AC Schnitzer has tuned pretty much every BMW you can think of, from its cars, SUVs and even motorcycles, but this bicycle would have to be the lightest performance vehicle it has ever fettled, weighing in at just 6.9 kilograms.
By shaving a full kilogram off the 'regular' bike's 7.9kg weight -- thanks to lighter carbon wheels, a new carbon saddle and saddle support, not to mention a carbon crank -- AC Schnitzer has developed a bike tailor-made for BMW M car owners.
With more carbon fibre on this human-powered machine than an F1 car, not to mention a new paint job, the BMW M Carbon Race by AC Schnitzer has not been given a price.
If you have to ask, you can't afford it...
