Added safety for updated Toyota Corolla hatch

Toyota has just spiced up its Corolla small car.

The evergreen Toyota Corolla hatchback will come with more safety equipment and a new two-tone colour package later this year, the Japanese marque confirmed today.

The popular hatch already incorporates autonomous emergency braking, a reversing camera, and adaptive cruise control as standard.

Soon, mid-spec SX and ZR models will get rear-cross traffic alert as part of the blind-spot monitoring system and low-speed autonomous emergency braking, which works up to speeds of 15km/h.

The ZR will also be available with an eight-way electrically-adjustable driver’s seat, plus the option of a new two-tone paint scheme.

From November, a blacked-out roof and pillars can be had with either Crystal Pearl, Volcanic Red, Oxide Brown, Silver Pearl, Eclectic Blue and a new colour: Feverish Red.

The new Feverish Red hue will also be available on Ascent Sport and SX variants.

The new two-tone colour scheme is available on top-spec ZR variants, fitted with either a 2.0-litre petrol or 1.8-litre petrol-electric hybrid, which is currently subject to an extended stop-sale.

The Corolla hatch will also have the option for a larger boot capacity (in Ascent Sport petrol variants only) by switching the full-size alloy spare wheel with a tyre repair kit instead. Toyota says when customers choose this option, boot capacity increases from 116 litres to 333 litres.
