Aston hypercar for Goodwood

Newey-designed Aston hypercar could have its first airing at Festival of Speed

Aston Martin’s new hypercar could get its first airing at Goodwood in June.

Just announced but clearly well advanced in terms of its design and engineering, the mid-engined competitor to the likes of McLaren’s P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari, will be seen “in a couple of months”.

That’s the inside like from the man who should know — Aston Martin CEO, Andy Palmer.

Palmer is a strong supporter of the ‘moving motor show’ that the Goodwood Festival of Speed has become of recent years. Last year the brand displayed its Vulcan uber-GT which was famously only finished the night before its first run up the storied hill climb (pictured).

“We will probably show it in two or three months — at least as a concept model,” Palmer told motoring.com.au.

It won’t be at Paris [motor show] — we haven’t decided what’s going to Paris yet. Motor shows are good for certain things but I think there’s a different environment where we’d prefer to show this particular car.

“I like when we’ve shown stuff for the first time at places like Goodwood. It’s a great environment where the car is moving and you can demonstrate what it’s designed for,” Palmer stated.

The other potential venue for the unveiling is the exclusive Pebble Beach concours on the US west coast.

Meantime, Palmer says the order book has already opened for the still-‘virtual’ car, which will be produced as part of Aston Martin’s technical partnership with the Red Bull F1 operation.

“We can count on a certain number of cars being sold just because it has an Aston Martin badge on it — collectors. If we talk about approaches while we’ve been here – around and about the race [Australian F1 Grand Prix] we’re up to about eight orders.

"And we haven’t announced the spec; we haven’t announced the design; we haven’t announced the price,” Palmer told motoring.com.au.
