Aston Martin has announced it is branching out into submarines with the launch of a new luxury take on a three-seat mini-sub.
Claimed to have been co-developed with Florida-based Triton Submarine, the new Aston submersible -- called Project Neptune -- is said to be capable of travelling at up to five knots and dive to depths of 500 metres.
Based on the existing 1650 3/LP, the British firm's take on the mini-sub receives design tweaks and more power, enabling it to accelerate to its cruising speed four times quicker than the standard sub.
Featuring a standard glass spherical hull, Project Neptune is said to offer occupants a near 360-degree view while they lounge in an interior that has been customised by Aston Martin's Q bespoke division.
Following on from the British car-maker's AM37 37-foot powerboat launched back in 2016, the move to branch out into non-car modes of transport is seen as an attempt by Aston Martin to edge closer to becoming an outright luxury brand.
