Audi CEO: Dieselgate not over yet
German car maker's boss not ruling out further recalls but wants to stay in chargeAudi's chief executive, Rupert Stadler, has said Volkswagen's emission scandal is not over in an interview with a German newspaper over the weekend.
Speaking to the Augsburger Allgemeine newspaper, Stadler declared his intention to stay on but said he had not ruled out further recalls as yet more emission cheats are unearthed in Audi vehicles.
Audi's shocking disclosure that the Volkswagen Group is still not on top of the Dieselgate defeat devices comes almost two and a half years after the car-making giant admitted to cheating in US emissions tests.
"We're still running into issues that we report immediately to regulators," Stadler admitted to the newspaper, adding: "The diesel crisis hasn't yet ended."
Announcing his intention to stay in charge earlier this year, Stadler had to appeal to his colleagues to ignore reports in the media he was about to be ousted as the Volkswagen Group board fought to appease both the stock market and government prosecutors.
"I feel responsibility, and as long as I have full support of the supervisory board and management, I accept this responsibility to solve the problem and lead the company into the future," Stadler said.
