Mercedes-Benz Australia has lopped an impressive $7000 off the asking price of its entry-level GLA 200 compact SUV following the run-away success of the cut-price City Edition introduced in July.
As such, the most affordable full-time GLA variant now starts from $62,900 plus on-road costs (down from $69,900) with only a few equipment alterations to match, all of which have been made optionally available: metallic paint ($700) and the panoramic sunroof ($1800).
No noteworthy changes have been made to any other facet of the package, including the powertrain which continues outputting 120kW/250Nm from 1.3 litres of displacement with the help a turbocharger and driving the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Headline equipment therefore still comprises heated and power-adjustable front seats with memory function, keyless entry and start, a powered tailgate, Parking Package, 64-colour ambient lighting, MBUX infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, smartphone mirroring, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging and sat-nav.
Safety and driver aid highlights meantime include autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, active lane keeping assist, traffic sign assist, blind spot assist with exit warning function, active parking assist with self-parking capability and adaptive LED headlights.
The alterations means the standard GLA 200 undercuts the City Edition by $1000 and in doing so, brings the special edition’s tenure Down Under to an end, however the base trim will now only be available online if wanted without any optional extras.
