Big cat goes green

Jaguar unleashes a Diesel XJ

Not content with bunging the 2.7-litre twin-turbo Diesel V6 in the S-Type (more here), Jaguar has now dropped the same engine into the XJ model, which is consequently known as the XJ6D.

The new engine has the sort of torque (435Nm) to push the relatively light XJ sedan to 100km/h in 8.2 seconds or return a fuel economy figure of 8.1 litres/100km on the combined cycle test. Jaguar advises that the engine also meets and exceeds the Euro IV exhaust emissions standard.

Coinciding with the new engine, the XJ6D also introduces acoustic laminated glass to reduce external noise and NVH is further reduced through the adoption of electronically controlled 'active' engine mounts, reducing vibration by up to 90% at idle.

The new model is priced at $154,900.
