BMW Australia has confirmed the limited-production M4 M Heritage Edition Coupe will touch down in Australia early next year.
Just six of the 750 examples produced globally are destined for Aussie showrooms, each priced at $167,529 (plus on-road costs) - an $11,000 premium over the BMW M4 Competition on which it's based, but still less than the $189K M4 CS.
The six cars will be available in a choice of three colours: Laguna Seca Blue, Velvet Blue metallic and Imola Red II, each a tribute to the BMW's tuning arm established in 1972.
Based on the existing BMW M4 Competition, the M4 Heritage's 3.0-litre inline turbo-six brings outputs of 331kW and 550Nm, driving the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The claimed 0-100km/h acceleration time is four seconds, while fuel consumption is rated at 8.8L/100km on the combined cycle.
Along with the commemorative colour palette, the M Heritage Edition models feature a carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) roof punctuated by an offset BMW M stripe and 20-inch M light forged alloy wheels with staggered tyre widths.
Inside, the M4 M Heritage Edition is decked out in leather upholstery and broken up by contrasting insets and stitching that differs depending on exterior colour. There are also carbon-fibre interior trims with obligatory M-themed stripes, and numbered plaques adorning the door sills.
The M4 M Heritage Edition features reworked adaptive M suspension boasting new shocks, springs and anti-roll bars for better outright handling.
In addition, the Heritage version’s drive modes have been recalibrated and the Active M Differential and dynamic stability control systems have been tweaked.
The special-edition M4's confirmation for Australia comes as BMW continues development of the all-new M3 and M4, which are set to be offered in all-wheel drive guise and with a manual transmission.
