BMW reveals new model roll-out
The BMW Group will release over half a dozen new or updated models over the next year and a halfBMW has several key updates and additions to its lineup ahead. Starting with the bigger, better new X3 -- scheduled for local release in March next year -- the brand will introduce the new 6 Series Convertible, presumably at the Detroit motor show and in time for summer sales in Europe and North America in June.
The 1 Series coupe is due for a makeover; anticipated late this year/early 2011 with arrival in local showrooms in the second quarter. On the world stage, the coupe will be joined by the new M version of BMW's baby by May.
Next generation 1 Series hatch will make an appearance in sales-ready form by mid 2011. The international launch is scheduled for July, while local buyers will only have to wait a few months for its arrival by October, BMW Australia spokesman Piers Scott told the Carsales Network.
Codenamed F20, the new 1 Series hatch will introduce a new four-cylinder 2.0-litre engine using direct injection.
The F10 generation M5 follows in the third quarter with a first appearance likely at the Frankfurt motorshow in September. In lieu of the current model's V10 powerplant the mighty mid-sizer is expected to use a version of the 4.4-litre twin turbo V8 powering the X6 M.
The MINI Roadster will join the recent Countryman addition to the brand's lineup mid 2012. BMW Australia has not confirmed its delivery timing for prospective local buyers at this stage.
Deliveries of the MINI Countryman and 5 Series Touring were delayed three months due to production issues and Scott told the Carsales Network that the "runaway success" of the Countryman in Europe and the UK has further delayed its arrival in local showrooms.
An update of the Z4 is expected after mid-2011. The aforementioned N20 four-cylinder engine is earmarked for the new model lineup, in the form of a 23i -- and potentially 28i -- offering.
Previewed at the Paris motor show last month, the new 6 Series Coupe will follow around October sporting LED head and taillights among other changes. BMW Australia expects its local arrival in November.
The all-important 3 Series sedan will be updated mid 2011 and is scheduled to arrive in Australia late that year. Its first appearance will coincide with one of the European motor shows; most likely Frankfurt in September.
