Some BMW owners can now play their favourite card game from the comfort of their car.
But only if their favourite card game is UNO. Balatro fans will be crestfallen.
A digital version of the colourful card game is now available to download over-the-air for Australian BMW and MINI owners with the BMW Operating System 8.5 and an embedded personal eSIM, via BMW's in-car gaming system.
To take part, players connect their own personal device (a smartphone), then scan a QR code on the central infotainment screen which turns each players' phone into a control pad that displays their cards, which can be kept hidden from other players in the car.

Tesla has been at the forefront of in-car gaming for years, with countless casual and even hardcore games available, along with access to the Steam game library. It's expected other car-makers will begin jumping on the video gaming bandwagon going forward as in-car infotainment systems improve.
But licensing well-known and popular gaming franchises, as BMW has done with UNO, could become a new hook to swing undecided new-car buyers (and their kids) one way or the other.
Making its global debut at gamescom (a huge video game exhibition in Cologne, Germany) this week, UNO Car Party has already been rolled out to more than 500,000 BMW Group vehicles both here and overseas.

The collab between Mattel, AirConsole, and BMW Group allows up to four players per game but it only works if the car is stationary, in ‘park’.
BMW Group Development Connected Company and Technical Operations, Stephan Durach, said the AirConsole gaming system continunes to be an integral part of modern BMW vehicles and will “...continue to increase the value of the overall digital experience for our customers.
“Our partners AirConsole and Mattel are helping make in-car gaming into a new social experience and I am thrilled to offer a family-favourite game like UNO for this exciting innovation,” he said.
However, not every new BMW can run the new gaming system, as AirConsole isn’t available on the 2 Series Coupe, 3 Series or 4 Series – some of the most popular BMWs. But this will change in future when newer models and mid-life updates occur.
