BMW Australia has announced a $68,900 (plus on-road costs) admission price for the hot new 2019 BMW X2 xDrive M35i.
The first M Performance version of the BMW X2 – powered by the first four-cylinder BMW M Performance engine – will be available in Australia in early 2019.
When it arrives, the compact all-wheel drive performance SUV will cost buyers $9000 more than the previous BMW X2 range-topper, the $59,900 X2 xDrive20d diesel, and $13,000 more than the lower-output 2.0-litre turbo-petrol powered, front-wheel drive X2 sDrive20i ($55,900 plus ORCs).
However, the hottest BMW X2 undercuts its most direct rivals including the Audi RS Q3 ($84,850 plus ORCs) and the Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 ($89,530 plus ORCs).
The X2 sDrive18i continues to open the BMW X2 line-up at $46,900 -- $3000 less than before, as part of a range-wide upgrade for both the BMW X1 and X2 models earlier this month.
As we reported when the ‘X2 M’ was revealed in September, BMW has eked 225kW of power and 450Nm of peak torque from the lusty B48 2.0-litre turbo – BMW’s first high-performance four-cylinder engine since the iconic E30 M3’s S14 unit.
Matched as standard with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission with gearshift paddles and launch control, the X2 M35 is claimed to hit 100km/h in just 4.9 seconds.
BMW says its ‘Intelligent xDrive’ AWD system and mechanical limited-slip M Sport front differential maximise front-end grip and prevent torque steer, while specifically-tuned M Sport suspension, M Sport brakes with blue callipers and exclusive 20-inch M light alloy wheels enhance cornering dynamics.
All this is wrapped in a unique M Aerodynamics package combining black high-gloss highlights and body trims finished in signature M Performance hue, Cerium Grey – including the grille, mirrors and a pair of 100mm diameter exhaust outlets.
Other standard features include ‘M35i’ door sill finishers, new electric M Sport seats with integrated head restraints, Dakota leather, Anthracite BMW Individual rooflining, Comfort Access System including tailgate, Aluminium Hexagon interior trim and a 12-speaker, 360-Watt harman/kardon HiFi stereo.
The standard equipment list also extends to Navigation System Plus with 8.8-inch colour touch-screen, Apple CarPlay, BMW Head-Up Display, front/rear Park Distance Control, LED Headlights with cornering function, Cruise Control with braking function, dual-zone climate control, BMW Connected+ and extended Bluetooth functionality.
Exclusive tht e BMW X2 M35i is the Enhance Package including metallic paint, panorama glass sunroof and wireless phone charging for $2900.
“The combination of M Performance exterior details and the M Sport dynamic enhancements heightens the sporting aesthetic and thrilling driving experience of the X2,” said Vikram Pawah, CEO of BMW Group Australia.
“The M35i delivers style, performance, versatility, and comfort at an accessible price point.”
