BMW's global sales in April rise 3 per cent
BMW brands make sales successDemand for its 3 Series convertible helped push up BMW AG's April sales worldwide, the company said.
The Munich-based automaker said that its three brands - BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce - sold a combined 118,456 cars last month, up 3 per cent from April 2006.
Sales of the BMW 3 Series Cabrio in April rose to 5,189 from 2,562 a year earlier, while the 3 Series coupe saw sales rise nearly fourfold from 1,817 a year ago to 6,819.
The company's BMW X5 was in demand, too, with 8,635 sold last month, up 45.6 per cent from the 5,941 sold in April 2006. The company's 5 Series sales rose nearly one per cent with 18,254 cars sold compared with 18,096 a year ago.
The company's new generation Mini was also in demand, with sales up 19.2 per cent in April to 18,263 cars, compared with 15,323 a year earlier.
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars delivered 52 Phantoms in April, up 2 per cent from the 51 it sold last year.
BMW also sold 12,320 motorcycles, up 1 per cent from a year earlier.
