David Brabham will fulfil one of his supercar dreams when his BT62 road racer hits the track in Britain in November.
The BT62 has been demonstrated at a range of events from the Bathurst 12-Hour (where it re-set the track record with our own Luke Youlden driving) to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, but it will be starting its first official race at Brands Hatch from November 9-10.
It could also be the first step towards competing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the World Endurance Championship in 2022.
Sam Brabham, son of David and grandson of Sir Jack, is likely to be one of the drivers at the Britcar twilight meeting after recently returning to Carrera Cup competition in the UK, although nothing is confirmed.
The Brands Hatch entry is being backed by Goodyear, even though the car has usually run on Michelins and wore the French tyres when it lapped Bathurst in 1 minute 58.68 seconds in January.
The Brabham BT62 will compete in the Britcar sports car category as an invitational entry, with the performance of the V8-powered supercar equalised with the rest of the leading contenders.
Brabham Automotive is yet to deliver its first customer cars, although David Brabham recently told carsales during the Festival of Speed that he has taken three firm orders for deliveries in the first quarter of next year.
The Brands Hatch event is a reflection of the competition potential of the BT62, which was announced as a track-day supercar but has since been modified for road use.
“Racing is in our DNA and we’re on the road to Le Mans and building the business,” Brabham said as he announced the Britcar deal.
“There’s so much to do but this opens up another avenue for us. It’s where the opportunity is. We’ve had customers say that they’d like to race,” he stated.
