Brabus powers up Mercedes-AMG A 35

More power, better aerodynamics as Brabus ramps up the baby Benz

German tuning house Brabus has waved its magic wand over the Mercedes-AMG A 35 warm hatch, allowing it to hit 100km/h in less than five seconds.

Available in Australia from September and October respectively, the standard Mercedes-AMG A 35 hatch and sedan produce 225kW/400Nm from their 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine.

Now Brabus, which is closely affiliated with Mercedes-Benz, has revealed its PowerXtra B 35 tuning kit for the A 35 hatch ahead of the next month’s Frankfurt motor show, complete with 268kW of power and 460Nm of torque.

Capable of hurling the A 35 to 100km/h in just 4.4 seconds, the PowerXtra tuning kit adds another 43kW of power and 60Nm of torque to the AMG-badged Benz, but also brings interior and aerodynamic upgrades, along with a 100,000km, three-year warranty.

It has upgraded the 2.0-litre engine with its plug-and-play engine management computer, with new high-performance mapping for the fuel-injection and the engine’s electronics, plus higher turbo boost pressure.

There’s also a new rear muffler with freer gas flow and a stainless steel sports exhaust.

Fitted with a seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, the standard A 35 hatch and sedan car are claimed to hit 100km/h in 4.7 seconds on their way to a 250km/h top speed.

The Brabus upgrade for the A 35 hatch retains the standard transmission, but adds its own aluminium gear shift paddles behind the steering wheel.

There’s a two-piece front spoiler that attaches to the lower section of the standard car’s bumper and Brabus claims they reduce lift at high speed.

The rear wing attaches to the roof in place of the standard, smaller unit and Brabus claims that’s for added aero balance.

It also runs new monobloc Brabus alloy wheels, with 8.5J x 19 sizing in glossy black to match the car and wrapped with Pirelli P Zero 235/35 ZR19 tyres.

In Australia, the standard Mercedes-AMG A 35 hatch and sedan will be priced from $67,200 and $69,800 respectively.
