BRABUS refines Mercedes' new C-Class
German tuning house one of the first to modify Benz's latest mid-sizerSince 1977 high-performance tuning company BRABUS has specialised in modifying Mercedes-Benz vehicles. It comes as no surprise, then, that the German firm should be one of the first to turn its attention to the all new C-Class.
Introducing what it calls an "exclusive BRABUS refinement program", new C-Class variants are enhanced with sporty yet elegant aerodynamic details, tailor-made alloy wheels, engine tuning and suspension options and even custom interior makeovers.
The tuning house says its aerodynamic kit has been developed not only to lend the C-Class a "more striking face", but also to minimise front axle lift at high speeds. The front spoiler is complemented by a discreet lip spoiler on the boot lid, and integrated side skirts available optionally with LED entry lights.
A diffuser-look insert for the rear bumper is also available, and offers a pair of cut-outs BRABUS says "provide the perfect backdrop for BRABUS quad sport exhaust system"... Would you like an exhaust with that?
Monoblock wheel and tyre combinations ranging in diameter from 18 to 20-inches are also available, the largest measuring 9.5-inches in width at the rear. BRABUS partners with Continental, Pirelli and Yokohama, offering customers a choice of higher performing tyres, while suspension kits, developed in conjunction with Bilstein – and in place of the adaptive dampers already offered optionally on most C-Class variants – deliver a lower ride with "sporty-comfortable" tuning.
Petrol-powered C 200 variants are amongst the first to benefit from BRABUS' PowerXtra B20.2 tuning profile which adapts the ECU's mapping for higher performance only after the engine has reached operating temperature. The manufacturer says the tune protects the engine's durability and longevity without impacting on emission standards. C 200 variants fitted with the kit are said to produce 31kW and 30Nm above standard (135kW/300Nm), shaving the 0-100km/h time to just 7.0 seconds (-0.3sec) and boosted top speed to 242km/h.
BRABUS will offer a similar performance kit for the diesel-powered C 220 BlueTEC soon, and says the software will allow a 36kW and 50Nm rise in output (125kW/400Nm as standard).
All performance tuning is backed by a warranty of three years / 100,000km, matching that of the factory warranty in most markets.
