CES 2020: Fisker Ocean to debut with ‘California Mode’

Sunroof or top-down experience for upcoming Fisker Ocean EV

The Fisker Ocean electric SUV will debut at next month’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, where its recently patented California Mode will be on display.

California Mode will be standard on all but the entry-level variant of the battery-powered SUV and will enable owners to “open the entire cabin with one touch” thanks to nine windows/panels that lower into the body of the car.

Fisker says the Ocean SUV will still maintain a ‘roll-cage’ safety structure around passengers in convertible mode, while those not wanting the full top-down experience can just open the large sunroof instead.

To allow the EV to function the way it does, Fisker said it had to redesign the SUV’s traditional body structure, re-engineering a number of steel and composite body panels along the way.

The Fisker Ocean is available to pre-order online in the US now, but deliveries aren’t due until 2022 when the SUV will be available via a pay-per-month subscription-style lease program.

Although the ground-breaking American SUV hasn’t been confirmed for the Aussie market, Fisker says it wants to offer the car Down Under eventually.
