A power hike of 5kW and a six-speed automatic with torque converter are the key points of a new DS4 variant, a car that Citroen claims will be the volume seller in the local DS4 range.
According to the importer the conventional automatic exploits peak torque of 240Nm from the more powerful 1.6-litre petrol turbo engine to reduce the acceleration time from 9.9 seconds to 8.6 seconds for the 0-100km/h sprint.
Based on the DStyle level of trim, the DS4 automatic – or DS4 DStyle THP 120 automatic, to give the car its full name – is priced at $35,990, which is the same price as the entry-level car with the 115kW version of the 1.6-litre engine shared with BMW, coupled to a robotised manual transmission. This now expands the DS4 range to four variants, with the diesel-engined DS4 DStyle e-HDi coming in at $36,990 and the range-topping DS4 DSport THP 147 at $39,990.
The new variant of DS4 is a further wrinkle in the complex range of small cars sold in Australia under the Citroen brand, including C4, C4 AirCross, C4 Picasso and DS4 – all of which fill different roles. It's a full portfolio for Sime Darby to administrate when that company takes over distribution of the Citroen brand from Ateco early next year.
