Dieselgate: VW Australia suspends sales

UPDATED: 11:15 AM (following Audi Australia's announcement, see below)

Volkswagen Group Australia (VGA) has suspended sales of key turbo-diesel models effective immediately (October 3). In a [very] briefly worded statement issued at 10:04am, the company stated the sales of “vehicles fitted with 1.6 or 2.0-litre EA189 diesel engines” had been “temporarily” stopped.

The statement in its entirety is below.

VGA’s list of the vehicles includes passenger cars and one commercial vehicle, plus two Skoda models. The vehicles are:

Volkswagen
Jetta, Passat CC, Passat B7 and Tiguan

Volkswagen Commercial
Caddy

Skoda
Yeti and Superb.

motoring.com.au has asked for further clarification, however, VGA has indicated it holds around 1000 of the vehicles (combined) in stock at this point.

UPDATE:
Audi Australia has followed VGA's lead and suspended new car sales on 2.0 TDI-engined A4, A5 and Q5 variants.

In a similarly worded statement issued at 11:15, the company stated that it too would make further statements this coming week. Further, it confirmed EU6 certified engines and V6 and V8 turbo-diesels irrespective of their emissions certifications are unaffected. It also stated "the affected vehicles continue to be safe to drive".
